Kyrie 3 “White Chrome” Performance Review

I really don’t know how to start this.

I love this pair. I really do. Not a go to shoe compared to my Dame 3 or my J Wall 2 but it gets the job done. Certainly not the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve hooped in but certainly not the worst *cough* Lebron 13 *cough*.

Let’s get started on the review:

TRACTION:

Certainly the BEST feature of this pair.

Traction pods are placed on both sides of the forefoot area and the rest of the outsole features a blade pattern.

Minimal wiping is needed. No slipping whatsoever even if the court I played in was dusty.

I don’t do crossovers that much. I play PF-C most of the time but I never experienced any type of slipping while running or those sudden stops.

Traction: 9/10

CUSHIONING:

A Zoom unit is placed in the heel area of the shoes for impact protection and phylon for the rest of the midsole for court feel.

The phylon does its job giving you that court feel when you play. The Zoom unit, however, isn’t really felt. It isn’t that responsive. I don’t know if I have to break it in more but based on all the reviews I’ve read about this pair, it’s all the same. I mean, it isn’t that stiff to make your feet hurt because I had a good time hooping in them.

Cushioning: 7/10

MATERIALS:

The upper features a reinforced mesh with fuse in the toe box for a bit more durability. The back end of the shoes features a spike-like design which doesn’t really do anything to make the shoe any better.

The materials on this pair are, OKAY. Nothing spectacular or amazing. It’s soft and isn’t stiff to hinder movement while playing.

Materials: 7/10

FIT/LOCKDOWN/LACING/SUPPORT:

The forefoot area features a Flywire lacing setup for a better lockdown while using this pair and does it get the job done? It does and it really feels locked down. Don’t tighten it up too much or you might feel a bit uncomfortable.

As for the fit, just go TTS (true-to-size). Before buying shoes (especially online), try them out in stores first to know your exact size. It’s a very narrow pair just so you guys know.

Support is great. The Flywire helps lockdown your feet along with the internal TPU heel counter effectively.

VENTILATION:

It doesn’t get hot. I never had an issue where my feet got too hot and sweaty while I was playing. The upper doesn’t look like it’s breathable since it has fuse and plastic reinforced mesh, but it actually is.

Ventilation: 8/10

OVERALL:

I’ve said before that the Dame 3 was my go-to shoe, but as of now I’ve played more in this pair than the other and I can proudly say that this is my go-to shoes now.

It’s a solid hoop shoe. Traction is great, the cushioning is decent, materials are awesome. If you were to look for a nice pair of point guard shoes, get this. But if you aren’t fond of stiff cushioning setups, don’t get this coz you’re going to have an unpleasant time.

Overall: 8/10

Initial thoughts on the Kyrie 3 “White Chrome”

No doubts.

I have zero doubts that this shoe will perform well. I have read tons of reviews saying that this pair, among the previous Kyrie’s, is the best one yet.

I won’t be doing a performance review. This just a plain tech breakdown and my initial thoughts on the shoes.

TECH BREAKDOWN:

  • Cushioning:

– Heel Zoom Unit

– Phylon midsole for court feel

  • Materials:

– Mesh upper
– Toebox is reinforced with a forefoot band with Flywire and fuse

  • Lacing:

– Flywire at the forefoot and instead of your regular circular holes for the laces, you get vertical shaped holes.

  • Support/Lockdown:

– Integrated forefoot band with Flywire cables enhance forefoot motion while maintaining lockdown

  • Traction/Outsole:

– Traction pods, integrated forefoot band and outsole curvature.

– Independent traction pods on the forefoot enhance traction for hard cuts.

– Herringbone/Blade Traction Pattern.

For me, personally, I think the only problem I’ll get with this pair, is the cushioning setup. Will I enjoy it? I don’t know. Will I hate it? Certainly not, it just means it’s not for me but it doesn’t mean I won’t play in them anymore.

Traction. We all know that won’t be a problem for a pair of shoes designed for the player with the best handles in the league (yes he is better than Curry in my personal opinion).

As for the materials and support, they look decent enough. I’m not expecting anything too special out of them. Let’s just hope the ventilation ain’t too shabby.

That is it for the Kyrie 3, the performance review should be up some time this week once I get to try em on.
